Friends. It’s July.
How did this happen? Weren’t we just stumbling through the last two weeks of school dreaming of some freedom? And all of a sudden I find myself already thinking about school shopping! When did life get stuck on the “fast forward” button?
Life keeps rapidly changing. And while it seems like I can barely keep up with it, I’m going to try to catch you up over coffee. (Yes, that’s my go to. In fact, my pajama shirt literally screams “I NEED COFFEE”. Yes, I’m wearing it right now. It’s kinda my faves.)
So grab your cup (no matter what fills it up) and let’s have a chat, shall we?!?
Speaking of coffee…
How do you take your coffee come the summer months? Since we are going on two weeks of this unusual heat…I tend wake up already sticky, open all the doors for some fresh air, but I still pour myself some hot coffee from the French Press. Is that very PNW of me? Is it so deeply engraved in who I am that I can’t have iced coffee in the morning? There’s just something comforting about it, and I can’t escape it. I don’t even want to.
But that being said, once the afternoon comes it’s iced coffee in all it’s glory. Don’t forget the whipped cream and cinnamon! (Is that where these extra few pounds are coming from? Uh oh…)

Those extra pounds…
I’m not one to obsess about my weight. Anymore. I don’t even own a scale. In fact, my husband outlawed scales in this house long before we were married. Because if it’s there…I will obsess. Like…weigh myself 3x a day. It is just not good for me. I do a lot better just going on how my clothes fit.
But right now…they’re not fitting the way I want. I’m telling myself that I’m just retaining a little extra water from all this heat. I mean, I told you about my toes, right? (Gross.) But I have a feeling it’s a bit more than that.
It might have something to do with the fact that I have no motivation to do my yoga when my house is 80 degrees. Yes, you read that correctly. E-I-G-H-T-Y degrees!!! And that damn chocolate. I can’t seem to leave it alone.

But those are just bad choices. Making some healthier choices and attempting to get back to a routine should help me feel more like myself.
Oh my golly, I need routine…
Friends. Do you remember me talking about dreading the school routine back when Hollywood started Kindergarten? Well, as it turns out…my mom was right! (Crap!) I need routine! Because this summer craziness…it has my kids crying and fighting like never before. As it turns out, we ALL need routine.

So I just wrote myself up a cleaning schedule. We have a group of moms from school who meet up every week at a different park. We have a summer journal to work on every morning. Some days are better than others…but I’m working towards creating a summer routine. It’s for my sanity, y’all!
If only we didn’t have so many big events coming up!
Like two weddings in ten days…
Yes. Yes, you read that right. Two of our siblings are getting married this summer. Ten days apart. My kids are in both of them.
Don’t get me wrong…we are SO thrilled to be a part of these big, monumental events! But it is adding quite a bit of extra crazy to an already crazy summer. I think both of the brides would agree that all the details leading up to the big day can be a bit overwhelming and we are all just looking forward to being there, together. I am so crazy excited for these two couples. We even got a chance to host a double couples shower! What fun!

And once it’s all over and those two amazing couples get to start their lives together, we will be ready to truly relax.
On vacation…
I hope. We have been trying to plan one all summer. We actually started talking about it in Spring…but somehow we are no closer to finalizing it. Besides another long weekend camping trip (like our fabulous Father’s Day trip), I’m starting to wonder if it will happen at all.

Even without all the wedding craziness, we have work to think about. And work has also been crazy. And it’s hard to take time off of work when work is crazy. You know how it is.
At least the weather is great…
Even if a vacation doesn’t pan out and we stay in the great PNW until school starts again this fall…I will count myself a blessed woman.
There are plenty of activities to do around town that will keep us busy and making memories. And you can’t beat the weather! Although most around here are whining about the heat…our family is rather enjoying it.

Well, at least until we come back inside and the temps raise another 10 degrees…hahaha!
How about you…?
In the comments below, I would love to hear…what is one thing you are enjoying about the summer right now? Is it the evenings so warm you can eat dinner outside? Or the variety of activities available to keep your family entertained? Or something else entirely?
