Since the moment it aired live, the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show has seemed to be the topic of conversation on all social media platforms. It never fails to amaze me how many people comment on the over-sexualization of these performances. Year after year, it’s the same thing, like it’s something new. Does it really surprise you?

While the fact of whether or not the Super Bowl is the largest sex-trafficking incident of the year remains in question, it’s already a well-proven fact that it’s a huge, ongoing issue. Add that into the common knowledge that sports, in general, are more geared towards men than families and ask yourself again – does it really surprise you?

When asked my thoughts on the performance, it turns out I have a rather unpopular opinion. In comparison to most of the halftime shows in the past, I actually thought this was pretty tame! Even with the questionable choice of pasties and camera angles, I found it much less cringe-worthy than I have come to expect from halftime shows. So maybe… If it’s a family friendly halftime you’re expecting, then may I suggest shutting off the tv and playing a board game next time?

What I find more disgusting, more cringe-worthy…is some of the comments I’m reading from the Christian community, slandering these women. We can do better. We NEED to do better. Let’s find a more productive way to use our voice. And NOT in a way that tears down other women.
