The (At-Home) Trick To Glowing Skin

Brrrr.  ‘Tis the season to be freezing, am I right?!?  I don’t know about you but my skin is FEELING the effects of the cold that is hanging in the air.  Only a few days into freezing temps and my lips were already chapped and bleeding.  What’s a girl to do?  Exfoliate and moisturize friends!  Exfoliate and moisturize!

But since I’ve spent pretty much my entire beauty budget on deep conditioners for my little Cocoa and makeup for myself, I have nothing left to spend on exfoliating treatments.  So what did I do?  Made one myself.  That’s right!

Mix together sugars and honey and add lemon juice until it’s just mixable (you don’t want it too runny it will be hard to apply to your face).  Apply with your fingers to a clean, dry face and let sit for a couple minutes to firm up.  Then gently massage into your skin, focusing on dry and/or flaky areas (don’t forget those lips!).  Rinse granules off by splashing water on your face.  Pat your skin off with a dry towel and apply a thick moisturizer.

The sugars are obviously the exfoliating agent.  Honey is naturally an antibacterial and anti-inflammitory, helping to absorb impurities and make your skin glow.  Lemon helps with the exfoliating and also helps brighten your skin for a radiant glow…who doesn’t want that, right?

I personally prefer to do this at night because my skin gets red very easily (make sure not to get too aggressive…you don’t want to “scrub” your face but massage the mixture in…the sugars will do the work for you), but also because I love to follow up with a thick moisturizer and let it sit on overnight.

Attractive, right?!?  😉

Some estheticians may tell you that sugar can be a little too rough for the sensitive skin on your face and décolleté….but as a temporary solution I figure SOMEthing is better than nothing.  And honestly, it has been nothing but beneficial for me.  I hope you find it does the same for you!
