5 Ways To Fight Frizz

No matter who you are, or what your skill set is…every single one of us is familiar with a bad hair day.

After a bit of a climate change from our last move, my hair has been struggling with a case of the frizzies. While it is unavoidable to a certain degree, I’ll be honest and say that between unpacking, running errands and fighting a constant stream of meltdowns…I’ve hardly put any effort into my hair as of late.

But maybe for the sake of good impressions, I should be following my own sage advice. Because really, with just a little bit of effort, you can tame that frizz in no time. Here’s how!

1. Invest in some quality hair products.

Even on a tight budget, it’s easy to get your hands on a product that will help you combat that frizz. A smoothing creme, applied before blow drying, would be my top pick. It will help seal the cuticle of those unruly strands as they dry, leaving your hair soft and shiny. And for those stubborn little hairs that are left? Try a pea size amount of this Cuticle Polisher from Pureology, a long time favorite of mine.

2. Seek out a nozzle for your dryer.

Most hair dryers come with one, but you maybe never even knew what it’s purpose was! These nozzles direct the airflow so that your hair isn’t just flying every which way, and concentrate the heat on the section of hair you are drying. It’s a wise investment since it also speeds up your drying time!

3. Aim your hair dryer properly.

I don’t know who originally had the idea to flip your hair upside down to blow dry it, but let me be the one to tell you that this is one of the biggest culprits of frizzy hair! Instead, try flipping your hair side to side, making sure your aim your hair dryer down your hair shaft. Blowing the dryer towards your roots just blasts that cuticle wide open, making your hair frizzy and drying out the strands. Where as blowing down the strands will help keep that cuticle closed, giving your hair that sheen you so desire.

4. Get a healthy trim.

Tangles and frizz are the early signs that your hair is in need of a cut. Check out those ends…are they starting to split? Once they start, they will only get worse. So even if you are aiming to grow out your hair, it will be in your benefit to take a trip to the salon and get those nasty ends removed. Believe me when I say that if you put it off for fear of losing your length…you will find they begin to break off anyway. And then you are just left with see through ends and frizzy strands.

5. Give yourself a deep conditioning treatment.

Frizz is a sign that your hair is lacking some moisture. Give your stands a little TLC with a deep conditioning treatment. Make a night of it and grab a good book, some epsom salts and run yourself a hot bath while you let your hair soak in the conditioner. My favorite is this Hydrating Masque from Moroccan OIl. It leaves my hair soft and glossy every time, not to mention smells divine. If you are having trouble finding one to fit your needs, ask a professional!

6. Get a professional gloss treatment.

Have you tried all these tricks and you are still struggling with the frizzies? Most salons offer what they either call a gloss or a glaze – which is basically a fancy way of saying that they are going to use clear color on your hair. Why? It’s simple! It seems those cuticles and gives your hair some long-term sheen (general 4-6 weeks). Well worth the money, if you ask me!

I hope these simple tips help you achieve the hair of your dreams! Which one do you think you’ll try first?
